Study Buddhism

The Foundation Programme (FP) course is designed for those who want to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism and meditation.

Contact us if you are interested in the FP course.

The Foundation Programme (FP) is a wonderful way of deepening our understanding and spiritual experience through following a structured course of study. It provides us with a systematic presentation of the basic subjects of Buddhism and forms a perfect basis for a strong daily meditation practice.

The book 8 Steps to Happiness

The FP course is currently studying 'Eight Steps to Happiness'. This inspiring book is based on 'Eight Verses of Training the Mind', a Buddhist poem composed by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa. This short poem shows how we can transform all life's difficulties into valuable spiritual insights and reveals deeply transforming yet practical methods to enable a powerful opening of the heart, the source of all true happiness.

What happens in a class?

FP classes are held on Saturdays, 10am - 2pm at Kashyapa Centre. Classes consist of chanted prayers to calm and prepare the mind, a guided meditation and teaching on a section of the book. The teacher clarifys the important points and illustates ways in which the ideas can be put into practice. Anyone can ask questions that they may have at any time. We then split up into pairs to recall the main points of the teaching, the idea being to help commit them to memory. We discuss any other points in order to overcome doubts or misunderstandings and to arrive at a clear understanding of the meaning and a practical application in our daily life.

Classes are intended to be both enjoyable and rewarding and many people find they help to give focus to their meditation practice and a positive direction to their life.

Interested?

If you have been coming to our weekly meditation classes and wish to study Buddha's teachings in a more systematic way, then feel free to try it out for 2 or 3 sessions. Due to its structured nature it is not possible to just ‘drop in’ to the FP classes, so please contact us if you wish to try out FP for a couple of weeks.

See for yourself how this study programme helps to improve the quality of your life by putting the teachings into practice.
